Things to do for Memorial Day weekend in Detroit and metro Detroit (May 23-26)
It’s Memorial Day weekend, and I have quite the list for you to enjoy the long weekend with!
Movement Music Festival
Movement Music Festival is Saturday, May 24 - Monday, May 26, at Hart Plaza. It celebrates Detroit’s contributions to the electronic music genre with six stages featuring more than 115 musical acts. General admission tickets are $205.66 per day or $365.45 for all three days.
Founder’s Day Celebration
The Motown Museum is hosting a Founder’s Day Celebration to celebrate 40 years of preserving the legacy and impact of Motown music. The festival is on Sunday, May 25, from 12 - 5 p.m. at Rocket Plaza. It will feature music performances, food trucks, face painting, and more. There’s no cost for admission.
Kensington Metropark Art Fair
The Kensington Metropark Art Fair is Saturday, May 24 - Monday, May 26, open 10 a.m. - 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday and Monday 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. It’s free admission but a Metropass is required for park entry. There will be juried artists, food trucks, speciality food, music, and hands-on art projects.
Dragon Forest
Saturday, May 24, kicks off Dragon Forest at the Detroit Zoo. This is a winding, 3-acre trail filled with fantastical sculptures, including animatronics of dragons and mythical creatures. Tickets are a $6 add-on to the typical cost of zoo admission.
Royal Oak Beer, Wine, and Cocktail Fest
The Royal Oak Beer, Wine, and Cocktail Fest is Saturday, May 24, from 6 - 9 p.m. (5 p.m. entry is for VIP tickets only) at Memorial Park. There will be 150+ craft beers, wines, and cocktails to sample. There will also be live music and food trucks. Tickets start around $45.
Aretha’s Jazz Café
Re’Monda and The PhillGood Music Group will be taking the stage at Aretha’s Jazz Café on Friday, May 23, from 7:30 - 9 p.m. Doors open at 7 p.m. Tickets are $33.85 on Eventbrite.
Memorial Day Parades
Sterling Heights’ 46th Annual Memorial Day Parade kicks off from the City Center parking lot at 10 a.m. on Monday, May 26, and will travel south down Dodge Park Road. The 72nd annual St. Clair Shores Memorial Day Parade is Sunday, May 25, at 1 p.m. and goes Harper Avenue to Ridgeway to 11 Mile Road.
International Gem & Jewelry Show
The International Gem & Jewelry Show, a direct-to-consumer jewelry show, is in Novi at the Suburban Collection Showplace from Friday, May 23 - Sunday, May 25. Tickets online are $6.
Blake’s Hard Cider Co. Sauce Off
Blake’s 2nd annual chicken wing sauce competition is Saturday, May 24, from 1 - 4 p.m. You can taste more than 20 locally-made sauces and vote to crown the 2025 champion. Tickets start at $25.15.
Yacht Rock Putting Party
Saint John’s Resort in Plymouth is hosting a Yacht Rock Putting Party on Friday, May 23, from 5 - 8 p.m. There will be live music, High Noon tasting, putting competitions, and more.
